5 Marketing Strategies For More Website Visitors

Want more website traffic? Here are 5 marketing strategies you can use to incentivize your target audience to visit, subscribe and stay on your website.

You’ve probably noticed by now… that having a website does not automatically mean new clients are lining up to work with you.

There’s a bit of work that goes into getting consistent website traffic.

Here are my top 5 marketing strategies that anyone can use to promote their website.

1. Blog

This is probably the most popular and common website marketing strategy.

Since the beginning of websites and the internet, people have been writing their thoughts/knowledge down and publishing it as blog posts.

If your blog posts are interesting, useful or entertaining… there’s a good chance people will subscribe, share and come back to read more.

The catch?

You’ll need to become a good writer (or hire a good writer) and put a good bit of time into coming up with the right headlines and keywords for your blogs.

Seth Godin is one Entrepreneur who has mastered the blog strategy.

He’s probably one of the most prolific bloggers in the world… writing and publishing one blog post everyday (even on holidays and weekends). He’s used his blog to grow his email list and sell his courses, seminars and books.

Another great example is Jon Loomer, a marketer who started a blog as a way to support his family after losing his job. He now runs one of the largest memberships in the world for digital marketers.

If you’re thinking that publishing a weekly or monthly blog is too much work… you could write a short blog series instead.

For example: I’ve written 4 blog posts for my website. It’s not much but it’s better than nothing and it provides my website visitors with some useful content which they can share with their friends or family.

2. Lead Magnet

The next marketing strategy is a bit more advanced… but it’s one of the most effective marketing tools you can have on your website.

In fact, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a professional website that DOESN’T have this tool.

Why?

Because everyone loves gifts… and that’s exactly what a Lead Magnet is.

A Lead Magnet is just a marketing term for the freebie or gift that your website visitors get in exchange for their email address.

You’ve probably seen this before on other websites.

One of the most common lead magnets is a PDF download … usually called an eBook, guide, workbook, checklist, roadmap, etc.

Other lead magnet ideas:

  • Free Quiz (my favorite)

  • Free Webinar

  • Free X-Day Challenge (i.e. Free 10-Day Pilates Challenge)

  • Free Case Study

  • Free Template

  • Free Mini-Course

  • Free Consultation

A lead magnet is usually one of the first things you’ll see on a website homepage, because most business owners understand how important it is to turn those website visitors into leads.

Marie Forleo’s lead magnet is a free audio download with accompanying PDF workbook.

David Molnar, photography mentor, has an excellent free video training on his website.

Once you have someone’s email address, you can communicate with them directly and add them to your email list where they’ll receive a specific email campaign designed to sell them your products or services. This entire process (from lead generation to purchase) is called a “sales funnel”.

The catch?

You still have to promote your lead magnet in order to get website visitors. You can push it on your blog or social media channels… but the fastest way to get it out there is through paid advertising on Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube … and maybe Twitter if Elon can figure it out. 🤣

3. Social Media

I can hear the groans already … I don’t love doing social media either 🤣 but we have to talk about it as a marketing strategy for websites.

Social Media is a powerful tool for growing your online presence and gaining visibility for your products and services. The catch?

If you do it “organically” (without ads) it can take foreverrrrrr to grow your followers.

But … it’s free (if you don’t count all the time that goes into it) and anyone can get started with social media. You don’t need writing skills or a sales funnel.

So in many ways, this is the easiest marketing strategy for anyone looking to increase their website traffic (but it could also be the slowest).

Popular social media platforms:

  • Facebook

  • YouTube

  • Instagram

  • Twitter

  • TikTok is the devil… don’t use it

BossBabe, a community for female entrepreneurs, does a good job with their organic social media on Facebook. Their posts often get plenty of engagement and shares (which is hard to do on that platform).

Hilary Rushford, stylist and business coach, has mastered the Instagram game for her business.

And whoever is managing Telegram’s twitter account deserves a reward.

However, you should know that most business owners with large social media followings use paid ads to grow their audience and reach.

Entrepreneurs that I mentioned above like Marie Forleo, David Molnar, Hilary Rushford and Jon Loomer all use Facebook & Instagram ads to promote their lead magnets.

I think it’s important to mention this in the discussion about social media marketing.

4. Content Collaboration

If you have expert knowledge of a subject (for example: you’re a Vegan Chef and can teach people how to cook a simple vegan dinner at home), you can connect with other entrepreneurs in this industry and collaborate on new content that would be useful for their audience.

Podcasts and Workshops are two ways that you can contribute to other people’s businesses while also growing your own.

You don’t even have to start a podcast of your own.

You can be a guest on someone else’s podcast and promote your website to their audience.

The catch?

It can be difficult to find these opportunities and get an invitation to collaborate. You may need to do a lot of research and spend time building connections with podcast hosts.

I recommend joining online communities and Facebook Groups to connect with Entrepreneurs who are looking for collaboration or guest speakers.

A simple online search will also provide you with a list of podcasts to explore. Once you find a podcast that you like, you can contact them directly to inquire about being a podcast guest.

You’ll need to get creative to make this marketing strategy work, but it can save you spending money on ads.

Seth Godin uses this marketing strategy every time he needs to promote a new book or program.

While most entrepreneurs use paid ads to reach more people with their offers… Seth Godin uses his knowledge & reputation as an expert blogger and marketer to book speaking gigs on influential podcasts, YouTube shows, and online conferences.

Have you collaborated with other Entrepreneurs yet? 🤔

5. Valuable Resources

The last marketing strategy that I want to mention is something between a blog and a lead magnet.

Valuable Resources are free and live on your website as a tool for attracting new and recurring visitors.

For example:

  • Free Video Training Series (no email opt-in required)

  • Free Blog Series (in-depth content on a specific topic)

  • Free Workshop Recording (i.e. a new vegan meal and recipe)

  • Free Resource Library (a list of free PDFs or templates to download)

Biddy Tarot, a professional tarot card reader and coach, has an extremely valuable resource for tarot card beginners on her website.

It’s a full list of all the Tarot card meanings, with a page describing each card clearly.

There are 78 cards in a tarot deck… that’s a lot of work. 😳 But it paid off.

I ran a couple marketing campaigns for Biddy Tarot back when I worked in a digital marketing agency, and I was surprised to see her website traffic numbers. Thousands of people were visiting her website everyday through Google searches for specific tarot card meanings… and then purchasing her online courses and tools.

Marketing Examples is another great example of a website with valuable resources.

One of my website & marketing clients, Dr. Amy Pleet-Odle, has a free library with educational resources for school leaders.

If you have deep knowledge on a specific topic … perhaps you can turn that insight into valuable content that your target audience is searching for.

Do you have any valuable resources on your website (other than a blog and lead magnet)? 🤔

Conclusion

Here are 5 marketing strategies to get more website visitors:

  • Blog

  • Lead magnet

  • Social media

  • Content collaboration

  • Valuable Resources

If you want more people to find and visit your website, consider adding one or more of these marketing tools to your homepage. 😉
